DUBUQUE, IA – The Tri-City Storm dropped a road game to the Dubuque Fighting Saints by a final score of 7-3 at the ImOn Arena Friday night.
Owen Beckner,
Nolan Roed, and
Cam Briere each netted a goal during the contest for the Storm. Tri-City will play an additional road game Saturday night against the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders to complete a two-game weekend on the road. Puck drop for Saturday's road game is scheduled for 7:05pm CT.
Michael Barron netted his fifth goal of the season at 2:35 of Friday's opening period to put the Fighting Saints ahead by a goal. The goal was scored even strength, and was assisted by Matthew Desiderio and Jake Sondreal. Dubuque netted a powerplay goal at 5:27 of the 1
st period to take a two-goal lead in the matchup. James Reeder scored his fourth goal of the year on the play, with teammates Juraj Pekarcik and Lucas St. Louis assisting on the play. The final goal of Friday's opening period was scored by Gavin Cornforth. The goal was netted at 12:12 of the period, and was assisted by Erik Pahlsson. Each team recorded ten shots on net during the opening period, and the Storm trailed by three goals entering Friday's 2
nd period.
Erik Pahlsson netted his first goal of the game, and eighth goal of the season at 1:18 of the 2
nd period to give Dubuque a 4-0 lead. Juraj Pekarcik and Michael Barron each recorded an assist on the scoring play. The Storm made a swap in net following the Fighting Saints' fourth goal of the night.
Cameron Korpi made seven saves on eleven shots in just over twenty-one minutes of game time on Friday night.
Ivan Zhigalov entered the game in goal for the Storm following the change.
Owen Beckner scored Tri-City's first goal of the matchup at 13:40 of the middle period. The goal was Beckner's fourth of the year, and was assisted by
Ryan Smith and
Trevor Connelly. The goal was scored on the powerplay, and brought Tri-City within three goals of Dubuque's lead.
Nolan Roed scored his fifth goal of the season at 16:57 of the 2
nd period to bring the game to a 4-2 score. Roed's goal was assisted by
Sean Keohane. Keohane's assist was his first assist, and first point, of his USHL career. The Storm outshot the Fighting Saints fourteen to ten during Friday's 2
nd period. Tri-City faced a two-goal deficit entering the final period.
Erik Pahlsson netted his second goal of the game, and ninth goal of the season, just over two minutes into the 3
rd period to give Dubuque its second three-goal lead of the night. Juraj Pekarcik notched an assist on the scoring play. Colin Frank scored his fourth goal of the year at 12:42 of the 3
rd period. Frank's scoring play was assisted by Charlie Arend and Fisher Scott.
Cam Briere netted his third goal of the year at 14:13 of the 3
rd period to bring Tri-City back within three goals of Dubuque's lead.
Jake Rozzi and
Ryan Smith each recorded an assist on the scoring play. Rozzi's assist was his first assist, and first point, since joining the Storm following a trade with the Madison Capitols. Jake Sondreal scored his sixth goal of the season at 17:52 of the 3
rd period to give the Fighting Saints a 7-3 lead in the matchup. The goal by Sondreal was scored into an empty net after Tri-City elected to lift goaltender
Ivan Zhigalov in favor of an extra attacker on the ice. James Reeder and Michael Barron each notched an assist on the scoring play. The empty net goal was the final scoring play of the game, and the Storm fell by a final score of 7-3. Despite being outshot thirteen to ten during the 3
rd period, Tri-City outshot Dubuque thirty-four to thirty-three overall in the contest.
Cameron Korpi picked up his first loss of the season in goal for Tri-City after making seven saves on eleven shots in just over one period of game time.
Ivan Zhigalov finished the matchup by making nineteen saves on twenty-one shots. Kevin Reidler collected the win in net for the Fighting Saints after turning away thirty-one of Tri-City's thirty-four shots on goal. Tri-City finished the matchup 1/4 on the powerplay, and 2/3 on the penalty kill. The Storm dropped to 7-4-0-0 overall on the season, and 2-2-0-0 against Eastern Conference competition in Friday night's road loss.
Tri-City will return home for back-to-back games against the Waterloo Black Hawks on Friday, November 10
th, and Saturday, November 11
th. Friday's game will feature a $5 Kids Friday presented by Big Apple Fun Center. Saturday's game will serve as the organization's annual Military Appreciation Night presented by Nebraska Warriors.
