Storm wins 6-3 battle over Lumberjacks

Vladislav Lukashevich, Artemi Nizameyev, Ryan Smith, Cam Briere, Jake Rozzi, August Falloon score in Tri-City victory

KEARNEY, NEThe Tri-City Storm won a battle at the Viaero Center by a final score of 6-3 Friday night over the Muskegon Lumberjacks to improve to 10-6-1-0 on the season. Vladislav Lukashevich, Artemi Nizameyev, Ryan Smith, Cam Briere, Jake Rozzi, and August Falloon all netted goals during the victory for Tri-City. Cameron Korpi backstopped the team for the win in goal for the Storm. Tri-City will return to action Saturday night at the Viaero Center in a rematch against Muskegon. Vladislav Lukashevich gave the Storm a one-goal lead at 5:26 of Friday's opening period with his third goal of the year. Ryan Smith and Cam Briere each recorded an assist on the even-strength scoring play. Muskegon's Patrick Raftery provided an answer a few minutes later with his second goal of the season to bring the game to a 1-1 tie. The goal was netted on the powerplay, and was assisted by Ethan Whitcomb and Easton Young. Artemi Nizameyev scored his fifth goal of the year at 11:18 of the 1st period to give Tri-City a 2-1 advantage in the matchup. The final goal of Friday's 1st period was netted on the powerplay by Joe Connor with less than three minutes to play. Connor's goal was his fifth of the season, and was scored at 17:04 of the 1st period. The Lumberjacks outshot the Storm by a 13-12 margin during the 1st period. The Storm entered Friday's game with a 1-1-1-0 record when tied after the 1st period this season. The Lumberjacks were previously 3-2-1-0 when tied after the 1st period this year. Friday's 2nd period began in a 2-2 tie.
 
The Storm netted the only two goals of the middle period to surge ahead on the scoreboard. Ryan Smith netted his seventh goal of the season at 7:25 of the 2nd period to give Tri-City a 3-2 lead in the battle. Smith's goal was scored on the powerplay, and was assisted by A.J. Lacroix and Jake Rozzi. Cam Briere scored another powerplay goal for Tri-City just over one minute later to give the Storm a two-goal lead in the matchup. Briere's scoring play was his fifth of the season and was assisted by Artemi Nizameyev and August Falloon. The Storm outshot the Lumberjacks 15-12 during Friday's middle period. The Storm previously held a record of 6-0-1-0 when leading after the 2nd period entering Friday's contest. The Lumberjacks were 0-6-1-1 when trailing after the 2nd period in eight previous games this year. Tri-City carried a 4-2 lead into the 3rd period.
 
Jake Rozzi netted his fourth goal of the year at 11:11 of Friday's final period to give Tri-City a three-goal lead in the matchup. Brandt Harper notched an assist on Rozzi's even-strength scoring play. August Falloon scored Tri-City's final goal of Friday's matchup with less than eight minutes remaining in the game. The goal was his team-leading tenth of the season, and was assisted by Artemi Nizameyev, and A.J. Lacroix. Muskegon's Joe Connor scored his second goal of the night, and sixth goal of the season at 15:18 of Friday's 3rd period to bring the Lumberjacks within three goals of the Storm's lead. Connor's goal was netted on the powerplay, and was assisted by Easton Young. Tri-City outshot Muskegon 15-7 in the 3rd period, and 42-32 overall during the matchup. The Storm's shot total for Friday night's game set a new season-high for most shots during a single game.
 
Cameron Korpi recorded the win in goal for Tri-City to improve to 9-3-0-0 on the season in net. He stopped 29 of Muskegon's 32 shots on net during the battle. Paxton Geisel dropped the game in goal for the Lumberjacks following a 36-shot-on-42-save effort. Artemi Nizameyev was named the 1st Star of the Game, with teammates Cam Briere and Ryan Smith collecting 2nd and 3rd Star honors, respectively.
 
Tri-City improved to 2-1-1-0 when tied after the 1st period, and 7-0-1-0 when leading after the 2nd period this season. The Storm is now 5-3-0-0 when outshooting its opponents this season, and 6-2-0-0 in games played at the Viaero Center.
 
The Storm hits the ice again on Saturday, November 18th, in a home game against the Muskegon Lumberjacks. Puck drop is scheduled for 6:05pm CT.
