LINCOLN, NE. – The Tri-City Storm dropped a 3-2 shootout decision to the Lincoln Stars Saturday night at the Ice Box.
Carmelo Crandell and
Owen Beckner each recorded a goal for Tri-City in the road loss.
The opening goal of Saturday's rivalry showdown at the Ice Box was netted at 13:31 of the period by Ethan Weber. Dashel Oliver and Jack Pechar each recorded an assist on the scoring play. The Storm responded less than a minute later to bring the game to a 1-1 score with Carmelo Candell's third goal of the season. Crandell's goal was assisted by
Blake Steenerson. The final goal of the 1
st period was netted at 18:58 of the period by Blake Montgomery. The scoring play was Montgomery's thirteenth of the season, and gave the Stars a 2-1 lead in the matchup. The Stars outshot the Storm by a 12-8 margin during the 1
st period.
Each team was held off of the scoreboard during Saturday's middle period. Lincoln outshot Tri-City 12-10 during the 2
nd period, and the Stars carried a one-goal advantage into the 3
rd period. The lone goal of Saturday's 3
rd period was netted by
Owen Beckner with less than five minutes to play to bring the game to a 2-2 score.
Artemi Nizameyev notched the lone assist on Beckner's ninth goal of the season. The Storm outshot the Stars by a 13-8 margin during the 3
rd period, and Saturday night's game at the Ice Box required an overtime finish.
Lincoln outshot the Storm by a 3-2 margin during the five-minute overtime period, but after neither team was able to score, Saturday's game entered a three-player shootout to determine a winner. Dashel Oliver and Ryan Spinale each netted a goal during the shootout to secure the Stars' victory. The Stars outshot the Storm by a 32-26 margin, and won the game by a final score of 3-2 in a shootout.
Cameron Korpi recorded the shootout loss in goal for Tri-City after making 33 saves on 35 shots during the regulation and overtime periods of Saturday's contest. Yan Shostak collected the win in goal for the Stars after making 30 saves on 32 shots during the game. Tri-City's record fell to 15-11-1-3 following the team's road shootout loss to Lincoln.
The Storm hits the ice again on Thursday, January 18
