Storm drops overtime decision to Musketeers

Trevor Connelly scores Tri-City goal in loss

SIOUX CITY, IA.The Tri-City Storm dropped an overtime decision to the Sioux City Musketeers Friday night at the Tyson Events Center by a final score of 2-1. Trevor Connelly netted the Storm's only goal on the powerplay during the 2nd period. Despite the overtime loss, the Storm extended its season-high point streak to six games. Tri-City will face Sioux City in a rematch tomorrow night in the team's third and final game of the week. Puck drop for tomorrow night's battle between the Storm and the Musketeers at the Tyson Events Center is scheduled for 6:05pm CT.
 
The 2nd period began in a scoreless tie after Tri-City outshot Sioux City by a 15-9 margin during Friday's 1st period. Easton Jacobs netted his sixth goal of the season at 12:26 of the middle period to give the Musketeers a 1-0 advantage in the matchup. Trey Jefferis and Kevin Fitzgerald each recorded an assist on the scoring play. Trevor Connelly's 12th goal of the season roughly two minutes later brought the game to a 1-1 tie. Alexander Bales and Owen Beckner each recorded an assist on Connelly's powerplay goal. The Storm was outshot by a 13-4 margin during the 2nd period, and Friday's 3rd period began in a 1-1 tie.
 
Each team was held off the scoreboard during the 3rd period, and Friday's battle required an overtime finish to determine a winner. Tri-City outshot Sioux City by a 6-3 margin during the 3rd period. Kaden Shahan netted his league-leading 22nd goal of the season at 2:49 of the overtime period to give the Musketeers a 2-1 win. Owen Keefe recorded the lone assist on the scoring play. The Storm was outshot by an overall margin of 27-25 during the contest.
 
Ivan Zhigalov recorded the overtime loss in goal for Tri-City after making 25 saves on 27 shots. Samuel Urban collected the victory in goal for Sioux City in a 24-save-on-25-shot effort. The Storm dropped to 16-11-2-3 overall on the 2023-2024 regular season in Friday night's overtime defeat.
 
The Storm hits the ice again on Saturday, January 20th, in a road game against the Sioux City Musketeers. Puck drop for the matchup is scheduled for 6:05pm CT.
