SIOUX CITY, IA. – The Tri-City Storm dropped a shootout decision to the Sioux City Musketeers by a final score of 3-2 Saturday night at the Tyson Events Center after scoring in the final three seconds of regulation time to force an overtime finish to the battle.
Dallas Vieau and
Cam Briere each netted a goal for Tri-City in Saturday night's game. The Storm's long road trip will continue with back-to-back away games next weekend against the Madison Capitols.
Dallas Vieau opened the scoring in Saturday's game less than five minutes into the contest. Vieau's goal was scored even strength, and was his sixth scoring play of the season.
Jake Rozzi and
Luke Posthumus each notched an assist on the scoring play. Finn Loftus netted his fourth goal of the season for the Musketeers at 5:38 of the 1
st period to bring the game to a 1-1 tie. Ty Hanson and Colin Kessler each recorded an assist on the scoring play. Tri-City was outshot by a 14-8 margin during the opening period, and after each team was unable to score during Saturday's middle period, the 3
rd period began in a 1-1 tie. Shots favored the Musketeers 8 to 6 during the 2
nd period.
Kaden Shahan scored his league-leading twenty-third goal of the season with under three minutes to play in the 3
rd period to give Sioux City a 2-1 advantage in the matchup. The goal was netted unassisted. Tri-City lifted goaltender
Cameron Korpi for an extra attacker on the ice with under a minute to play in an attempt to tie the game.
Cam Briere scored his eleventh goal of the year with less than three seconds to play in regulation time to bring the score to 2-2. Trevor Conelly and
Ryan Smith collected an assist on the game-tying goal. Sioux City outshot Tri-City by an 11-3 margin during the 3
rd period. Tri-City forced a shootout finish to the contest after a successful penalty kill during the overtime period. The Storm was outshot 2-1 during overtime, and 36-18 overall in the matchup.
Brian Nicholas netted the only goal of the shootout to seal the Musketeers 3-2 victory. Tri-City extended its season-high point streak to seven games, and dropped to 16-11-2-4 on the 2023-2024 regular season.
Cameron Korpi recorded the shootout loss in goal for the Storm after making 33 saves on 35 shots during the matchup. Samuel Urban won the game in net for Sioux City in a 16-save-on-18-shot effort.
The Storm hits the ice again on Friday, January 26
