MIDDLETON, WI. – The Tri-City Storm dropped a 5-2 road decision to the Madison Capitols Friday night at Bob Suter's Capitol Ice Arena.
Trevor Connelly and
A.J. Lacroix each recorded a goal during the matchup for the Storm.
The opening goal of Friday's cross-conference battled between the Storm and the Capitols was netted just over five minutes into the game by Chris Delaney. The goal was scored even-strength, and was his eighth of the year. Nathan Tobey and James Mackey each collected an assist on the scoring play. The Capitols outshot the Storm by a 7-6 margin during Friday's 1
st period, and Tri-City trailed by a goal entering the 2
nd period.
Rainers Rullers scored his sixth goal of the season forty-four seconds into the middle period to increase Madison's advantage to two goals. The goal was assisted by Austin Burnevik and Charlie Michaud. The Capitol's third consecutive scoring play was recorded by Jack Brandt at 3:55 of the 2
nd period. Sam Kappell and Noah Barlage each collected an assist on Brandt's second goal of the year.
Trevor Connelly netted his thirteenth goal of the year at 5:15 of the middle period to put the Storm on the board for the first time in the matchup. The goal was netted even-strength, and was assisted by
Owen Beckner and
Jake Rozzi. Andrew Kuzma scored his thirteenth goal of the year at 7:21 of the middle period to give Madison another three-goal lead in the contest. Finn Brink and Noah Barlage each collected an assist on the scoring play. The final goal of Friday's 2
nd period was netted by
A.J. Lacroix at 11:37 of the period.
Cam Briere and
Vladislav Lukashevich each recorded an assist on Lacroix's fifth goal of the regular season. The Storm outshot the Capitols 13-10 during the middle period, but trailed by two goals entering Friday's 3
rd period.
The lone goal of the 3
rd period was scored into an empty net by Jack Brandt with under two minutes to play. The goal was assisted by Max Nagel and Charlie Michaud. The Storm outshot the Capitols 5-4 in the 3
rd period, 24-21 overall, but fell by a final score of 5-2.
Cameron Korpi made 16 saves on 20 shots, and recorded the loss in net for Tri-City. Patriks Berzins collected the win in goal for the Capitols in a 22-save-on-24-shot-performance. The Storm dropped to 16-12-2-4 in the road loss.
The Storm hits the ice again on Saturday, January 27
