Tri-City uses third period surge to knock off Green Bay on Friday night

GREEN BAY, WI – Three third period goals by Cam Springer, Artemi Nizameyev and Nolan Roed respectively powered the Tri-City Storm to a 6-5 victory over the Green Bay Gamblers on Friday night at Resch Center.

Tri-City (10-10-3, 23 pts) ended a two-game skid. Green Bay (11-8-1, 23 pts) snapped its four-game winning streak.

A combined five goals were scored in the first period. Tri-City got on the board 6:30 into the frame to make it a 1-0 contest. Nizameyev rushed up the right wing of the ice to the Green Bay zone, then fed Roed, who was moving quickly down the middle of the sheet toward the Gambler net. Roed tipped the feed past Green Bay netminder Gavin Moffat for his eleventh of the season.

Green Bay tied the contest with a quick passing play in front of the Storm cage 8:48 into the first. Aidan Park finished a one-time pass from Niles Benson at the bottom of the left wing circle. The Gamblers earned their first lead of the night on a rush less than two minutes later when Vasily Zelenov fed Geno Carcone in the right wing circle of the Tri-City end. The New Hampshire commit slapped a shot past Dybal for his ninth tally of the year.

The Storm evened the game 16:30 into the first. Nizmeyev possessed the puck at the top of the right wing circle in the Gambler's zone. The Russia native then sent a quick give-and-go feed to the goal line and Roed. Nizameyev got the return pass in front of the Green Bay net, then flipped a top shelf shot on his backhand past Moffat to make it a 2-2 game.

Green Bay retook the lead prior to the first intermission. Zelenov buried his seventh goal of the season after a quick feed in front from Carcone, who won a board battle and was positioned in the right wing corner.

Tri-City re-tied the contest with a power play tally in the middle part of the second. Rylan Bonkowski, who gathered a feed from Carson Pilgrim, took the puck to the top of the left wing circle in the Gambler's zone. Bonkowski ripped a snapshot that slowly snuck through Moffat's body into the cage. The Minnesota State commit tallied his second goal of the season.

An eventful third period of scoring began with Green Bay's fourth goal of the contest. William Samuelsson jammed his third tally of the season after cleaning up a rebound off Dybal's pad from a Will Zellers shot.

Tri-City answered 44 seconds afterward to tie it up. After a Moffat save from a long range Storm shot, Cam Springer found a loose puck during a net front scramble in the blue paint of the Green Bay crease for his second goal of the season.

Three minutes later, Nizameyev produced the game-winner. The Miami commit found the puck on the left wing boards in the neutral zone, then slowly walked toward the Green Bay net. Nizameyev then stuffed a shot through Moffat's five hole after a handful of dekes for his league-leading fifth game-winning goal of the season.

Green Bay pulled Moffat with two minutes remaining, but could not cash in with an empty net. With a little over 50 seconds remaining, Roed found a loose puck on the left wing boards of the Tri-City zone, then shot it down the length of the rink into the open cage for his second of the night. The St. Cloud State commit recorded four points in the contest to lead all Storm players.

Dybal earned his fourth win of the season between the pipes. The Czechia native stopped 17 of 21 shots he faced.

Up next: Tri-City finishes its road trip Saturday at Green Bay. Puckdrop inside Resch Center is scheduled for 7:05 pm CT. The game will be broadcast on FloHockey and Storm Radio
