Storm wins shootout decision over Steel

Vsevolod Logvin, Trevor Connelly, Blake Steenerson, and Artemi Nizameyev each netted goals for the Storm in the victory. Logvin and Cam Briere scored for Tri-City during the shootout to seal the win.

GENEVA, IL.The Tri-City Storm won a shootout decision over the Chicago Steel by a final score of 5-4 Friday night at the Fox Valley Ice Arena. Vsevolod Logvin, Trevor Connelly, Blake Steenerson, and Artemi Nizameyev each netted goals for the Storm in the victory. Logvin and Cam Briere scored for Tri-City during the shootout to seal the win. Cameron Korpi won the game in goal for the Storm after making four saves in the overtime, and two saves during the shootout. The Storm will return to action tomorrow night for the team's final game of the weekend in a rematch against the Steel. Puck drop for tomorrow's cross-conference battle is scheduled for 7:05pm CT.
 
Vsevolod Logvin netted his third goal of the season just over two minutes into Friday's 1st period to give the Storm a 1-0 lead in the matchup. Logvin's goal was assisted by Trevor Connelly. Connelly netted a powerplay at 4:23 of Friday's opening period to take a two-goal advantage in the battle. Logvin and Jake Rozzi each collected an assist on the scoring play. Charlie Major responded for the Steel with his twentieth goal of the season at 6:50 of the period to cut the Storm's lead in half. Mick Thompson and Michael Emerson each recorded an assist for Chicago on the scoring play. Kolin Sisson netted his eighth goal twelve seconds later to bring the game to a 2-2 tie. Tobias Ohman and Chris Reiniger each notched an assist on the scoring play. Tri-City outshot Chicago 11-9 during the 1st period, and the 2nd period began in a 2-2 tie.
 
Michael Emerson scored his fourth goal of the season at 5:19 of the 2nd period to give the Steel three unanswered goals, and a 3-2 lead in the matchup. Lucas Sawchyn and Price Grimes each collected an assist on the scoring play. Blake Steenerson responded with his fifth goal of the year for the Storm at 9:11 of the middle period to bring the game to a 3-3 tie. Carmelo Crandell and Shaun McEwen each recorded an assist on the scoring play. The final goal of Friday's middle period was scored by Joey DelGreco with under eight minutes to play. Tobias Ohman and Kolin Sisson recorded an assist on the scoring play. The Steel outshot the Storm 10-5 during the 2nd period, and carried a 4-3 lead into Friday's 3rd period.
 
The lone goal of the 3rd period was netted on the powerplay at 13:11 of the period by Artemi Nizameyev. Nizameyev's scoring play was assisted by Vladislav Lukashevich. Despite outshooting the Steel 17-4 in the final period, the Storm's game-tying goal was the only scoring play of the 3rd period. Friday's game entered a five-minute overtime period after regulation time ended in a 4-4 tie. Tri-City was outshot by a 4-0 margin during the overtime period, and Friday's contest required a shootout to determine a winner.
 
Vsevolod Logvin scored a goal for the Storm during the 1st round of the shootout to give Tri-City the lead. Charlie Major missed for the Steel, and Tri-City took a two-goal advantage in the shootout after Cam Briere netted a goal. Mick Thompson was unable to score on Cameron Korpi, and Tri-City collected a 5-4 shootout win in the contest.
 
Cameron Korpi made 23 saves on 27 shots to record the victory in net for Tri-City. Louka Cloutier recorded the shootout loss in goal for the Steel. Cloutier recorded 20 saves on 22 shots during regulation time. Christian Manz played the 1st period during Friday's game for the Steel and made 9 saves on 11 shots.
 
The Storm hits the ice again on Saturday, February 17th, in a road game against the Chicago Steel. Puck drop for the matchup is scheduled for 7:05pm CT.
