KEARNEY, NE. – The Tri-City Storm put together a historic performance Sunday evening at the Viaero Center in a ten-goal defeat of the Omaha Lancers. Tri-City's twelve goals scored during the matchup broke a previous team record that stood for more than twenty years for the most goals netted in a single regular season game. The Storm posted an 11-0 victory at the Viaero Center over the Rochester Mustangs (Defunct) during the organization's inaugural season of play on January 27
th, 2001. The record fell 8,408 days later with Sunday night's result.

A.J. Lacroix all netted goals for Tri-City in the victory. Lacroix's goal was the twelfth, and final of the game, and gave the Storm a new single-game record. Tri-City returns to action with back-to-back games next weekend against Omaha in rematches of Sunday night's historic game. Friday's game will be played at the Liberty First Credit Union Arena and will begin at 7:05pm CT. The Storm's home game against the Lancers on Saturday will begin at 6:05pm CT. Cam Briere netted his fourteenth goal of the season just fifteen seconds into Sunday's opening period to give Tri-City a one-goal advantage in the matchup. The scoring play was assisted by
Ryan Smith and
Jake Rozzi.
Philippe Blais-Savoie scored his fourth goal of the year at 12:07 of the 1
st period to give the Storm a two-goal lead in the matchup. The goal was netted on an in-between-the-legs style shot.
Vsevolod Logvin scored his first career USHL goal sixteen seconds later to give the Storm a 3-0 lead. Logvin's scoring play was assisted by
Vladislav Lukashevich and
Trevor Connelly. The final goal of the 1
st period was netted by
Ryan Smith with less than five minutes to play in the period. Smith's goal was his fifteenth of the season, and was scored shorthanded.
Shaun McEwen and
Zach Bade each collected an assist on the goal. The Storm outshot the Lancers 14-7 during the opening period, and Tri-City carried a four-goal lead into Sunday's middle period.
Ryan Smith netted his second goal of the game, and sixteenth goal of the season, at 4:50 of Sunday's 2
nd period to give Tri-City a 5-0 advantage in the rivalry showdown. The goal was also Smith's second shorthanded goal of the matchup. Smith tied Jaden Schwartz's organizational record of two shorthanded goals in a single game on the scoring play. Schwartz, a Stanley Cup Champion, and current Seattle Kraken forward, accomplished the feat on March 6
th, 2010, in Tri-City's 5-4 shootout victory over the Youngstown Phantoms at the Viaero Center. Schwartz also netted a goal during the shootout, and was named the game's First Star. Smith's second shorthanded goal of the matchup was scored unassisted. Christian Kocsis netted his fifth goal of the year at 5:49 of the middle period to end Tri-City's run of five unanswered goals. The goal was netted on the powerplay, and was assisted by Drew DellaSalla, and Charlie Lieberman. The Storm responded with an even strength goal from
Owen Beckner less than a minute later to regain a five-goal advantage in the rivalry game. Beckner's goal was his eleventh of the season, and was assisted by
Charlie Kinsman, and
Vsevolod Logvin. Logvin netted his second goal of the game, and second goal of his USHL career with less than four minutes to play in the 2
nd period to give the Storm a 7-1 lead in the battle. The goal was assisted by
Trevor Connelly and
Owen Beckner. The final goal of Sunday's middle period was scored with less than a minute to play by
Zach Bade. The goal was his fourth of the year, and was assisted by
Blake Steenerson, and
Carmelo Crandell. Tri-City outshot Omaha 18-6 during the 2
nd period, and the Storm carried a decisive 8-1 lead into Sunday's 3
rd period.
The opening goal of the final period of play was netted by
Trevor Connelly at 6:18 of the period. The scoring play was Connelly's team-leading seventeenth of the season, and was assisted by
Owen Beckner and
Vladislav Lukashevich.
Carmelo Crandell netted his fourth goal of the year at 10:18 of the period to increase the Storm's advantage to 10-1.
Owen Beckner and
Dallas Vieau each notched an assist on Tri-City's tenth scoring play of the evening.
Luke Posthumus's third goal of the season gave the Storm an eleventh goal in the contest at 15:58 of the 3
rd period. The goal was assisted by
Dallas Vieau. Omaha's Gabe Kenne scored his fifth goal of the season with less than three minutes to play in the matchup to end Tri-City's run of six unanswered goals. The goal was assisted by Lucas Brennan. The final goal of the matchup was scored with less than a minute to play by
A.J. Lacroix. The goal was Lacroix's seventh of the season, and was assisted by
Vsevolod Logvin, and
Vladislav Lukashevich. Tri-City outshot Omaha by a final margin of 42-23 after each team posted 10 shots on net during the 3
rd period. The Storm's ten-goal victory over the Lancers gave the team an 18-13-4-4 overall record on the 2023-2024 regular season.
Cameron Korpi stopped 21 of Omaha's 23 shots on net during the matchup, and improved his personal record to 17-8-1-4 on the regular season. Lucas Szyszka made 24 saves on 32 shots in nearly 40 minutes of game time Sunday night. He was replaced by emergency backup goaltender Ty Tanton following Tri-City's eighth scoring play of the matchup.
