LINCOLN, NE. – The Tri-City Storm collected a 4-3 overtime victory over the Lincoln Stars Friday night at the Ice Box in the final game of the team's five-game road trip.
Trevor Connelly scored the game-winning goal twenty-one seconds into the overtime period to seal Tri-City's victory.
Artemi Nizameyev,
Owen Beckner, and
Ryan Smith each netted goals for the Storm during regulation time.
Cameron Korpi recorded the victory in goal for the Storm. Tri-City returns to action tomorrow night in the organization's annual Kool-Aid Night game at the Viaero Center. The game will feature a rematch of Friday's rivalry showdown between the Storm and the Stars. Puck drops at 6:05pm CT.
The opening goal of the 1
st period was netted ninety-one seconds into the contest by
Artemi Nizameyev. The goal was his twelfth of the season, and was assisted by
Shaun McEwen and
Cam Briere.
Owen Beckner scored a powerplay goal at 11:37 of the 1
st period to give Tri-City a two-goal lead in the matchup. Beckner's goal was his twelfth of the year, and was assisted by
August Falloon and
Vladislav Lukashevich. The final goal of Friday's opening period was scored by Lincoln's Jared Mangan with less than two minutes to play. Matt Maltais and Layne Loomer each collected an assist on the scoring play. Tri-City was outshot by a 13-5 margin during Friday's opening period, but carried a 2-1 advantage into the 2
nd period.
Max Ferkodic tied the game at 2-2 with his fifth goal of the season at 10:32 of the 2
nd period. Justin Mexico and Kai Janviriya each notched an assist on the goal. The final goal of the 2
nd period was scored by
Ryan Smith with less than three minutes to play. Smith's goal was his 20
th of the season, and was assisted by
August Falloon and
Cam Briere. The Storm outshot the Stars 12-10 in the 2
nd period, and carried a 3-2 advantage in Friday's 3
rd period.
The only goal of the 3
rd period was scored at 17:47 of the period by Martin Masa. Masa's goal was his second of the year, and forced an overtime finish to the contest. Jacob Rombach and Layne Loomer each recorded an assist on Lincoln's game-tying goal. The Storm outshot the Stars 13-11 during the 3
rd period.
Trevor Connelly scored his team-leading twenty-second goal of the season only twenty-one seconds into the overtime period to give the Storm its third victory of the season over the Stars. The goal was netted on the powerplay, following Martin Masa's slashing penalty taken with less than seven seconds remaining in regulation time.
Vladislav Lukashevich and
Artemi Nizameyev notched an assist on Connelly's game-winning goal. Tri-City was outshot by a 34-31 margin during the matchup, and improved to 8-5-3-2 when being outshot by its opponents this season.
Cameron Korpi stopped 31 of 34 shots to record the victory in net for the Storm. Lucas Massie dropped the game in net for Lincoln after stopping 27 of Tri-City's 31 shots during the matchup.
The Storm will wear specialty sweaters for tomorrow night's Kool-Aid Night promotion. The game-worn jerseys will be auctioned off following the matchup.
