WATERLOO, IA. – The Tri-City Storm dropped a road contest to the Waterloo Black Hawks by a final score of 4-1 Saturday night at Young Arena.
Shaun McEwen netted the Storm's only goal during the matchup. Tri-City returns to action tomorrow afternoon for one final game of the team's three-game weekend. Tomorrow's rematch between the Storm and the Black Hawks at Young Arena is scheduled to begin at 3:05pm CT.
Gavin Lindberg netted his sixteenth goal of the season nineteen seconds into Saturday's game to give the Black Hawks a 1-0 advantage in the matchup. John Mustard and Nicholas Fascia each recorded an assist on the scoring play. John Mustard gave Waterloo a two-goal lead in the game at 8:52 of the opening period with his twenty-fourth goal of the season. Gavin Lindberg notched an assist on the scoring play.
Shaun McEwen netted a goal for the second time this season at 11:15 of the 1
st period to cut Waterloo's lead down to 2-1. Trevor Conelly recorded an assist on McEwen's scoring play. The final goal of Saturday's opening period was netted by Gavin Thoreson with less than five minutes to play. The goal was his eighteenth of the season, and was assisted by Griffin Erdman. Tri-City was outshot by a 14-5 margin during the 1
st period, and trailed by two goals entering the middle period.
Waterloo outshot Tri-City by a 10-7 margin in Saturday's scoreless 2
nd period. The Storm entered the 3
rd period trailing by two goals.
Gavyn Thoreson scored his second goal of the game, and nineteenth goal of the season five seconds into Saturday's final period to increase Waterloo's lead to three goals. Griffin Erdman and Gavin Lindberg each collected an assist on the scoring play. The goal was netted on a five-on-three powerplay, and was the final scoring play of Saturday's game. The Storm outshot the Black Hawks 12-9 in the 3
rd period, but was outshot by an overall margin of 33-24 during the battle.
Thatcher Bernstein recorded the loss in goal for the Storm after making 11 saves on 14 shots during Saturday's opening period.
Cameron Korpi made 19 saves on 20 shots during the final two periods after replacing Bernstein in net after the 1
st period. Calvin Vachon recorded the win in goal for Waterloo in a 23-save-on-24-shot performance.
The Storm hits the ice again on Sunday, March 24
