KEARNEY, NE. – The Tri-City Storm dropped the final game of the weekend by a final score of 3-2 to the Sioux City Musketeers Saturday night at the Viaero Center.
Cam Briere and
August Falloon each netted goals for the Storm in the one-goal loss. Tri-City will return to action next weekend with three consecutive home games against the league-leading Fargo Force. Puck drop for Friday's game is scheduled for 7:05pm CT, Saturday's game will begin at 6:05pm CT, and Sunday's contest is scheduled to begin at 3:05pm CT.
The only goal of Saturday's opening period was netted by Sioux City's Kaden Shahan with less than a minute to play. Shahan's scoring play was his league-leading 35
th of the year, and was assisted by Brian Nicholas and Max Strand. The goal was scored on the powerplay, and gave the Musketeers a 1-0 advantage in the matchup. Tri-City outshot Sioux City 16-9 during the 1
st period, but trailed by one goal entering Saturday's middle period.
Cam Briere netted a powerplay goal at 8:53 of the 2
nd period for Tri-City to bring the game to a 1-1 tie. The goal was assisted by
Artemi Nizameyev and
Vladislav Lukashevich. Sioux City took a one-goal lead in the matchup with less than two minutes to play in the period with Ethan Gardula's fourteenth goal of the year. Gardula's goal was netted even strength, and was assisted by Max Strand and Brian Nicholas. The Storm outshot the Musketeers by a 14-5 margin during the 2
nd period. Sioux City carried a 2-1 advantage into Saturday's 3
rd period.
Ethan Gardula scored his second goal of the game, and fifteenth goal of the season into an empty net with less than two minutes to play in Saturday's final period to give Sioux City a 3-1 advantage in the matchup. The goal was assisted by Liam Hupka.
August Falloon scored his fourteenth goal of the year with eight seconds left in the game, but the Storm fell by a final score of 3-2.
Vladislav Lukashevich and
Trevor Connelly each recorded an assist on the play. Tri-City outshot Sioux City 22-11 in the 3
rd period, and 52-25 overall in the matchup, but dropped to 24-18-4-4 on the season in the loss.
Cameron Korpi dropped the game in goal for Tri-City after making 22 saves on 24 shots during the matchup. Samuel Urban stopped a career-high 50 shots in the win for the Musketeers.
The Storm hits the ice again on Friday, March 15
