KEARNEY, NE. – Tri-City Storm President of Hockey Operations/Head Coach Anthony Noreen was recently named the new Head Coach at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. Noreen will continue with the Storm through the remainder of the regular season, and the 2024 Clark Cup Playoffs, before officially assuming his role at Miami. He will leave the organization as the winningest Head Coach in Storm history. Noreen led the team to Anderson Cup Championships in 2019, and 2022, and was twice named the USHL's Coach of the Year during his Tri-City tenure.
Anthony Noreen, 41, of Chicago Illinois, was hired by the organization on May 26
th, 2017, as the eighth Head Coach in team history. He has compiled an overall record of 236-126-24-18 during his time with the Storm. Thirty-four Storm players have been selected in the NHL Draft during his time in Kearney, and more than one hundred have gone on to play college hockey. Six former Tri-City players who played under Noreen have made their NHL debuts.
Noreen is the only Head Coach in Storm history to be named the USHL's Coach of the Year. He became the organization's first recipient in 2019, and again was awarded with the title in 2022. Tri-City has been honored with at least one Player of the Year, Forward of the Year, Defenseman of the Year, Goaltender of the Year, Rookie of the Year, and Scholar-Athlete of the Year, during Noreen's seven-season tenure. Including his Coach of the Year Awards, more than ten major season-ending awards have been won by the Tri-City Storm during his time in Kearney.
