Sunday's box score
SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Attila Lippai's two goals and one assist, Carmelo Crandell's three assists, and Nolan Roed's goal and assist powered the Tri-City Storm to a 5-1 victory over the Sioux City Musketeers on Sunday afternoon at Tyson Events Center.Â
Tri-City (21-22-3, 45 pts) won two of its three contests this weekend. Sioux City (23-17-7, 53 pts) ended its three-game point streak.Â
Despite a number of quality offensive chances on both sides across the opening 20 minutes, no goals were scored in the first period. The Storm began the contest with strong energy and outshot Sioux City 12-6 in the frame.Â
Tri-City continued that energy in the second period, where they put up a trio of goals to lead 3-0 after forty minutes.Â
Colby Woogk scored first after redirecting a puck 3:50 into the middle frame. Positioned near Sioux City's net, the Western Michigan commit touched a Roed shot that came from the right point of the Musketeer's zone. It was Woogk's sixth tally of the season. Roed collected his team-leading 26th assist of the year.Â
The Storm doubled their advantage less than five minutes later. As Tri-City rushed the left wing into Sioux City's zone, Dylan Nolan shipped a centering pass directly in front of the Musketeer cage. Rhys Wallin, who was open in the area, used his backhand to deflect the puck above the shoulders of Sioux City netminder Samuel Urban. It was the UMass commit's sixth goal of the season.Â
Lippai handed the Storm a 3-0 advantage with exactly eight minutes left in the second. As the Musketeers handled the puck below their goal line, Crandell pressured on the forecheck and won a board battle in the left wing corner. The Arizona State commit then fed Lippai, who sent a shot from the slot through Urban.
Sioux City got on the board nearly halfway through the third. Luke Garry collected his eighth of the season after receiving a feed on the back door of Tri-City's net from Giacomo Martino. The Martino pass came from the bottom of the left wing circle. Garry ripped the puck past the glove side of Storm starting netminder Michal Pradel.Â
Tri-City produced an immediate answer and re-took its three-goal lead 13 seconds later. Roed clipped a backhand shot past Urban from directly in front of Sioux City's net after collecting a quick feed from Crandell, who swiped the puck after a brief board battle on the left wing. It was Roed's 22nd tally of the year, one away from Artemi Nizameyev's team lead of 23 goals.Â
Roed has produced seven points over his past three appearances. Crandell's trio of points Sunday were his highest total in one game since putting up four on November 8 against Sioux Falls.Â
Lippai ended the scoring 13:19 into the final frame. The St. Thomas commit received a deflected puck in Sioux City's zone at the bottom of the right wing circle and tucked a shot through Urban's five-hole. Sunday was Lippai's third multi-goal game of the season and first since Saturday, January 11 at the U.S. National Team Development Program. The forward produced his first three-point game since December 13 at Lincoln.Â
Pradel stopped 14 of the 15 shots he faced Sunday. The Slovakia native is now 3-0-0 across four appearances with the Storm. Urban halted 24 of 29 Tri-City shots in the game.Â
The Storm have won three of this season's first four matchups against the Musketeers. Tri-City has scored five goals in each of those three wins.Â
