Friday's box score
SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Rylan Bonkowski's first career two-goal game and Nolan Roed's multi-point performance helped the Tri-City Storm to a 4-2 win over the Sioux City Musketeers on Friday night at Tyson Events Center.Â
Tri-City (22-22-3, 47 pts) returned to the .500 mark on the season. Sioux City (23-18-7, 53 pts) has lost six of its past eight games.Â
The Storm were first to score and did so in the final minute of the opening period. Bonkowski received a loose puck at the Sioux City blue line, then quickly ripped a snapshot over the blocker of Musketeer goaltender Samuel Urban. It was the Minnesota State commit's third goal of the season and first since November 29 at Green Bay.Â
Tri-City doubled its lead about halfway through the second. Charlie Pardue snuck a shot past the right side of Urban's body after retrieving the puck at the bottom of the left wing circle in the Sioux City zone. The puck came to Pardue off Shaun McEwen's stick from between the faceoff circles. It was the Notre Dame commit's fifth tally of the season.Â
Sioux City battled back with a pair of shorthanded goals, tying the contest before the end of the second. The Musketeer's Anthony Allain-Samake picked up a two-minute minor for boarding with just under three minutes remaining in the second. Sioux City produced both shorthanded tallies on that single penalty.Â
Trey Jefferis got the Musketeers on the board after beating Tri-City goaltender Michal Pradel on a breakaway. The Hummelstown, Pennsylvania native intercepted a loose puck at his own blue line, then charged toward Pradel. Jefferis ripped a snapshot past Pradel's blocker side for his tenth goal of the season 17:47 into the second.Â
Fifty-nine seconds later, Jefferis again intercepted an errant puck in the Storm zone and rushed with two other teammates into the Sioux City offensive end. Luke Garry slipped a pass from the Tri-City slot to the left wing circle and Drake Murray, who belted a shot around Pradel for his sixth tally of the season.Â
It didn't take long for Tri-City to reclaim its lead. One minute and five seconds into the third, Bonkowski received the puck from Attila Lippai at the right point of the Musketeer zone. The Richmond, British Columbia native floated a shot that ricocheted off Urban in the blue paint, then Sioux City defender Drake Murray, and into the Musketeer cage. Friday was Bonkowski's first career multi-goal game.Â
After an even majority of the third period, the Musketeers pulled Urban with just under two minutes remaining. As the Arizona State commit skated off the ice, Tri-City's Cole Ward was assessed a minor penalty for holding.Â
In the midst of a Sioux City 6-on-4 advantage, the Storm won a board battle on the left wing of their zone and cleared the puck into Sioux City's end of the ice. Roed swiftly hustled to the puck, stealing it from Landon Nycz on the left wing boards of the Musketeer zone. The St. Cloud State commit skated to the empty net and finished the goal for his fourth point in two games.Â
Pradel collected his fourth win across five appearances with the Storm. The Slovakia native halted 17 of 19 Sioux City shots. Urban stopped 23 of 26 Tri-City attempts on Friday.Â
Up next: Tri-City continues its three-in-three in Des Moines with matchups on Saturday (6:00 pm CT) and Sunday (5:00 pm CT) against the Buccaneers. Each contest will be broadcast on FloHockey and Storm Radio.
