Friday's box score
LINCOLN, Neb. – Netminder Quinn Beumer halted all 33 Lincoln shots and four different Tri-City players contributed goals as the Storm defeated the Stars 4-0 on Friday night at the Ice Box.
Tri-City (3-2-0, 6 pts) is back above the .500 mark after the victory. Lincoln (1-3-0, 2 pts) has dropped three of its first four games to begin the season.
An eventful first period featured one goal, one disallowed goal, a combined 83 penalty minutes, and a combined 17 shots on goal.
Tri-City led 1-0 at the first intermission thanks to a power play tally from Matthew Krayer at the 15:18 mark of the opening frame. A deflection fed Krayer at the top of the right circle after the Storm handled the puck on the left wing. The Concord, Massachusetts native fired a shot past the glove side of Lincoln goaltender William Prowse for his second goal and fourth power play point of the campaign. The Stars had a goal disallowed on video review earlier in the first due to goaltender interference.
The Storm added their second goal late in the second period. Tri-City controlled the puck on the right wing below the goal line in their offensive zone. A deflection quickly sent the puck to Storm forward Cooper Ernewein in the right circle. The 2008-born player immediately sent a snapshot beyond Prowse's glove side for his second marker of the season.
Trailing by two in the game's final minutes, Lincoln pulled Prowse for an extra attacker. The Storm took advantage with two empty net goals to jump ahead 4-0.
Jackson Smith made it a three goal contest by finding the vacant cage with just over a minute to go. Smith lugged the puck down the left wing of the neutral zone and popped a shot close to the Lincoln blue line toward the net.
With less than 20 seconds left, JP Messuri ripped a shot from near the blue line on the right wing of the Stars zone to produce his first career USHL goal. Ernewein provided a feed to set up Messuri's shot. Ernewein (1-1-2) was the lone skater in the game to finish with multiple points.
Prowse, who suffered his second loss of the year, stopped 29 of the 31 Storm shots he faced on the night.
Up next: Tri-City travels to Des Moines to face the Buccaneers on Saturday. Puckdrop is set for 6:05 pm. The contest will be broadcast on FloHockey and Storm Radio.
