Storm grow winning streak to four with 4-2 Friday victory over Steel

Friday's box score

KEARNEY, Neb. – Dom Domonkos's game-winning goal just over three minutes into the third period and another solid goaltending performance by Quinn Beumer lifted the Tri-City Storm to a hard fought 4-2 win over the Chicago Steel on Friday night at Viaero Center.

Tri-City (9-3-0, 18 pts) has won a season-high four straight games. Chicago (5-3-2, 12 pts) fell to 1-3-0 in road contests this season.

With the game tied at two early in the third period, Tri-City's JP Messuri set up Domonkos with an open rush feed in front of the Steel net. The Slovakia native made a forehand-backhand move to steer the puck around Steel netminder Alex Wang for his first game winning goal of the campaign.

Down a goal with under a minute left in the third, Chicago pulled Wang for an extra attacker. Tri-City's Dylan Krayer won a battle for a contested puck and flung it the length of the rink into the empty cage for his fifth marker of the campaign, making it 4-2.

After a scoreless first period, each team combined for a pair of goals in the second frame.

Tri-City was first to strike at the 1:51 mark of the second. As the Storm rushed down the left wing of their offensive zone, Jackson Smith tucked a quick feed to Matthew Krayer near the left circle. Krayer sent a quick shot that beat Wang for his sixth goal of the campaign.

The Storm doubled their lead just over a minute later. Domonkos set up Messuri with a centering pass in front of the Steel net. Messuri, positioned between the faceoff circles in the Steel zone, rapidly slapped the puck beyond Wang for his first marker since October 2.

Chicago responded, however, with two second period goals of their own to even the game at 2-2 before the second intermission.

Arsenii Savin got the Steel on the board at the 3:54 mark of the stanza. After receiving a Leland Dulac feed in the middle of the Storm zone, Savin tucked a shot through traffic past the glove side of Beumer for his first career USHL marker.

Former Storm forward Dallas Vieau evened the contest about ten minutes later. Vieau grabbed a contested puck on the left wing of the Tri-City zone, then raced to the right circle and swiped a backhand shot beyond Beumer. It was Vieau's third goal of the campaign.

Four Storm players logged multiple points in the game. Messuri, Dylan Krayer, and Domonkos each produced a goal and assist each (1-1-2). Tri-City's Cooper Ernewein tabulated a pair of assists (0-2-2).

Beumer halted 21 of 23 Steel shots to pick up his sixth win in seven starts. Wang, who halted 29 of 32 attempts, suffered the loss.
