Lancers defeat Storm 8-5 in high scoring affair on Friday night at Vee Arena

Friday's box score

KEARNEY, Neb. – Six Omaha players finished with multiple points and goaltender Anthony Sciere made 33 saves as the Lancers defeated the Tri-City Storm 8-5 on Friday night at Vee Arena.

Omaha (6-6-1, 13 pts) has won four of its past five games. Tri-City (10-4-0, 20 pts) snapped its season-long five-game winning streak.

The Lancers' Yegor Kim (1-2-3), Rylan Bydal (1-1-2), Adam Israilov (1-1-2), Charlie Vig (1-1-2), Tanner Morgan (0-2-2), and Artem Prima (0-2-2) all found the scoresheet multiple times on the night.

The Storm put up the game's first pair of goals within the opening ten minutes of regulation to grab a 2-0 lead.

At the 4:33 mark of the opening frame, Dylan Krayer caught a Jackson Smith feed in the middle of the Omaha zone, then fired a snapshot over the left pad Sciere. It was Dylan Krayer's seventh marker of the campaign.

A little over four minutes later, the Storm doubled their lead when Aleksandr Sokolov used his stick to bat the puck out of mid-air in front of Sciere and into the net. An initial shot by Dom Domonkos was stopped by the goaltender, who allowed the airborne rebound.

Omaha evened the game with two goals, scored 16 seconds apart, in the final three minutes of the first.

At the 17:44 mark of the period, Zach Spagnuolo rushed the puck into the Tri-City end of the rink and popped a snapshot past the glove side of Storm goaltender Quinn Beumer for his third marker of the campaign.

Omaha quickly reentered their offensive zone with the puck following the center ice faceoff after their first goal. Vig, who was positioned in front of Beumer, received a Bydal feed from the right wing boards and tapped it home to make it 2-2.

The Lancers came out with an exceptionally strong second period, producing four unanswered markers in the opening half of the frame to take a 6-2 lead.

Ryder Reynolds got the second period scoring underway with a tally 4:29 into the middle frame. While positioned at the top of the right circle in the Storm zone, Reynolds received a Prima feed from behind the Tri-City net and blasted it home for his second goal of the season.

Omaha doubled its advantage less than 90 seconds later. Jack Stanius one-timed a Morgan cross-ice pass from the left circle to make it 4-2.
Tri-City pulled Beumer after Stanius's tally and replaced him with Ryan Denes. Beumer saw 25:50 of action, making nine saves on 13 shots.

Omaha struck again less than two minutes after their fourth goal. While on the power play, Israilov snuck a wrist shot from the right circle past Denes. The Lancers made it a 6-2 game near the halfway point of the period when Israilov gathered a turned-over puck in the Storm zone and fed Kim in front of the net who finished past Denes.

Dain Gordon pulled Tri-City within two goals thanks to a shorthanded marker just past the half way mark of the third. Trevor Hill gathered the puck in the right circle of the Omaha zone and fed a streaking Gordon who ripped the puck past Sciere. It was Tri-City's second shorthanded goal of the season.

Omaha retook a three-goal lead just 50 seconds later. Bydal, from point blank range, slapped a feed beyond Denes after receiving a feed from Kim below the Storm goal line.

Tri-City made it a 7-5 game on the power play when Cooper Ernewein found the back of the net with approximately three minutes to go. Smith lugged the puck up the ice, then fed Ernewein in the Omaha zone. The Saskatchewan native tucked a left circle wrist shot past Sciere for his fifth goal of the year.

The Storm pulled Denes for an extra attacker following Ernewein's tally. Omaha found the vacant cage when Prima tapped a Kim pass home in the offensive zone to make it 8-5.

Matthew Krayer led the night with three points (1-2-3) for Tri-City. Ernewein (1-1-2), Dylan Krayer (1-1-2), and Smith (0-2-2) also had multiple points for the Storm.

Sciere, who picked up his sixth win of the year in the Omaha net, stopped 33 of 38 Storm shots.

Up next: Tri-City continues its homestand with two games next weekend. Lincoln visits Vee Arena on Friday (7:05 pm puckdrop) and Omaha returns to Kearney on Saturday (6:05 pm CT).
