Tri-City’s Jackson Smith commits to Miami University

KEARNEY, Neb. – Tri-City Storm forward Jackson Smith has announced his commitment to Miami University.

A Division I institution located in Oxford, Ohio, Miami competes in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC).

Currently in his first season with the Storm, Smith is Tri-City's team leader and places second among USHL rookies in points (13) while leading all league rookies in assists (10). Smith additionally has recorded five power play points to rank third among USHL rookies.

Four of Smith's 11 games this season have been multi-point efforts, including a three-point game on October 10 at the U.S. National Team Development Program.

On Monday, the Chicago, Illinois native was named to NHL Central Scouting's Preliminary Players to Watch List for the 2026-2027 season. Smith qualified as a "C" rated player, meaning he is a projected fourth or fifth round selection in this summer's 2027 NHL Entry Draft.

Smith is a product of the Windy City Storm AAA organization in greater Chicago. Last season, as a member of Windy City's 16U AAA team, Smith compiled a whopping 29 goals and 65 assists for 94 points in 50 games.

The 2009-born player is set to play under Anthony Noreen, Tri-City's former President of Hockey Operations and Head Coach, who is now serving in his third year as Head Coach of the RedHawks.

Smith becomes the 11th Tri-City player to announce a Division I commitment and first to Miami. The right-shot player becomes the third member of the Storm to commit to an NCHC school, joining Dylan Krayer (Arizona State) and Dain Gordon (Colorado College).

Miami has appeared in one national championship game, two Frozen Fours, and 12 NCAA Tournaments. Founded in 1809, the school enrolls approximately 16,500 undergraduates, offering over 400 areas of study.
