Tri-City begins two-game series at U.S. National Team Development Program Under-17 squad Friday night

PLYMOUTH, Mich. – The Tri-City Storm begin a two-game series at the U.S. National Team Development Program Under-17 team on Friday night at USA Hockey Arena. Puckdrop is set for 6:00 pm CT. 

Fans can watch the contest on USAHockeyTV and listen on Storm Radio.

Previously:

  • Defeated Des Moines 7-3 Saturday on road, beat Lincoln 4-0 Friday on road.

  • Saturday: Sammy Courtemanche recorded his first career hat trick. It was Tri-City's second hat trick of the season (Aleksandr Sokolov, September 25 vs. Sioux Falls).

  • Saturday: Matthew Krayer, Evan Sofikitis, Bode Wise, Aleksandr Sokolov also scored for the Storm.  

  • Saturday: Goaltender Ryan Denes collected his second career USHL win stopping 27 of 30 Buccaneer shots

Team Notes:

  • The Storm have scored 28 goals through their first six games. This is the highest goal total through the first six games of a season on record in franchise history. Records go back as far as the 2002-2003 season. It took Tri-City 12 games to reach 28 goals last season.

  • Tri-City's 4.67 goals per game are most among USHL teams. The Storm's 28 goals this season place second-most among USHL teams (Cedar Rapids, 31).

  • The Storm have scored 12 first period goals this season, ranking first among USHL teams.

  • The Storm power play has converted at 22.7% this year, placing second-best among USHL teams (Waterloo, 43.8%).

  • Tonight, the Storm continue a stretch of four straight games and five of six contests on the road. Tri-City's next home game is Friday, October 16 vs. Omaha. 

Player Notes: 

  • Sammy Courtemanche's Saturday hat trick was Tri-City's first hat trick in October since 2011 (Nick Lapin). Courtemanche has scored five goals this season, the fifth-most among USHL players. Courtemanche's +7 rating is first among USHL rookies. 

  • Aleksandr Sokolov has scored in five of Tri-City's six regular season games. During the 2026-2027 season, Sokolov leads all USHL players in goals (7) and is tied for fifth in points (9). 

  • Trevor Hill has recorded a point in six straight games. This ties for the longest active point streak in the USHL. Hill's +9 rating ties for third among USHL players. 

  • Brothers Dylan and Matthew Krayer have tabulated four power play points each, tying for first among USHL players. 

  • Quinn Beumer is one of four USHL goaltenders to record a shutout this season (October 2 at Lincoln). Beumer's .939 save percentage is third among USHL goaltenders. 

  • Sammy Courtemanche, Matthew Krayer, and Jackson Smith have put up seven points each this season, tying for second among USHL rookies. 

U.S. National Team Development Program Under-17 Team (1-3-0)

  • This weekend's games are the team's first against USHL opponents this season.

  • Last saw action at North American Hockey League (NAHL) Showcase in Blaine, Minnesota: dropped 4-0 game to Fairbanks Ice Dogs on Saturday, September 26 and 3-0 contest to Lone Star Brahmas on Friday, September 25.

  • Split two-game series at Anchorage Wolverines (NAHL) across September 11 and 12.

Season series: This weekend features the only two regular season meetings between Tri-City and the U.S. National Team Development Program Under-17 team in 2026-2027. The Storm faced the U.S. National Team Development Program Under-18 squad on Saturday, September 19 at the USHL Fall Classic in Chicago. Tri-City took the game 6-3. 

Last season, the U.S. National Team Development Program Under-17 team visited Viaero Center for a two-game series. The Storm swept the series, winning 2-1 on February 20 and 6-1 on February 21.
